Whitening & Veneers Q & A

What Causes Tooth Discoloration?

Tooth discoloration can come from food stains, tobacco use, and drinking certain beverages such as coffee or sodas. These types of stains can usually be removed with professional whitening treatments. When the discoloration occurs inside the tooth, and cannot be removed by whitening, other options such as veneers and internal bleaching can be successful treatments.

Is Bleaching Safe?

In a professional environment such as Academy Dental with Dr. Thind tooth bleaching is absolutely safe. Using the most advanced, effective, and safest techniques patients can feel confident in their treatment and the overall results.

What Happens During a Teeth Whitening Treatment?

Your dentist uses whitening gel directly on the teeth. The strong concentration of peroxide within the gel will break up apart the stains, leaving a whiter and brighter smile. Many dentists use lasers or specially formatted lights in combination with the gel to achieve the best results.

What are Dental Veneers?

When whitening is not an effective option, veneers can be used to hide stains, cracks, or other defects. The veneers are thin shells that are applied directly to the surface of teeth. They help teeth appear straighter and improve the proportions. Veneers are commonly made out of porcelain and can be color-matched to the surrounding teeth.

How are Veneers Applied?

During the first visit,a 1/2 millimeter of enamel from the tooth surface is removed to ensure a proper fit. An impression of your teeth is made and sent out to prepare your new veneers. It usually takes 1-2 weeks for your dentist to receive the veneers back from the laboratory. You will be fitted with a temporary veneer which will be replaced with the permanent veneer on your next visit. To determine which type of treatment will be best for you, contact the office to schedule an appointment with Dr.Thind.
